I agree with your analysis completely. I hate the Coliseum but we are stuck with it for now. There are some things that could be done to make the baseball experience better: rehab the bathrooms, more interesting and healthier food choices (although the BBQ is awesome!), spiff up the parking lot with some trees, wifi connectivity thoughout the stadium, etc. That would improve the whole experience and make the Coliseum more enjoyable.

I looked throughout the Bay Area on Google Earth for a new A's Stadium location. Two possibilities are the Old Concord Naval Weapons Station Land and over in Pleasanton or Livermore. I personally thought the Concord Naval Station was the best alternative. Everything proposed in Fremont could be accomplished in Concord (e.g. school, homes, shops, and parking). The Concord Bart is already in place, unlike Pleasanton and Livermore. The land is just sitting there and it appears several people have their eyes on future projects (e.g. residential, schools, stores, nature park), which could be part of the financial base. But wouldn't these things fit nicely with a stadium? One consideration would be an airport and possibly some more hotels, but there is an infrastructure in the East Bay that could facilitate the A's and even the Raiders. It might seem farfetched to some, but the East Bay that has supported the A's and Raiders for over 40 years is ready for a team.

Five years ago I said to friends that the new stadium should be in the Dublin/Pleasanton/Livermore area.  With good Bart and freeway access and a large portion of their fan base in Contra Costa and East Alameda County, it is a logical location.  It's not an urban local, but people could get there easily, even from the South Bay.  Also the setting would be beautiful.  But logic and beauty have never driven these kinds of decisions.
