Yet another case of abusive use of force by an officer. How hard would it be to subdue an infirmed 81yr old man?? Not to mention the risk of giving the guy cardiac arrest.
Tazers have caused unnecessary deaths to civilians across America. Many departments have now banned them for this very reason. The tazer gun is over-used and "abused" as a tool. What ever happened to grabbing the guy by the arm and putting him in the car, with respect.
Using intelligence to talk down the situation. For gods sake, an 81yr old infirmed Senior Citizen. No doubt this will bring a big lawsuit and Civil Rights invetigation. The Bay area attorneys chomping at the bit to get this case.
Perhaps all the facts are not out yet, but an 81yr old infirmed Senior that is just lazy and wrong.

I dunno. My grandfather is 98 and he could bring down my father if he wanted to. He's strong and healthy
(He has also smoked 2 packs a day since he was 9) makes you think....

No, all the facts are NOT out yet. I guess not having all the facts won't keep you from posting what you think SHOULD or SHOULDN'T have happened though, right?
Anyway, everyone else can decide for themselves.....

So, BBrentwood, where are the FACTS that the officer was abusive as you alleged with ZERO research on your part? Where in law or basic common sense does it state an officer needs to be struck FIRST with a metal cane before he is able to defend himself? A metal cane IS a deadly weapon and the CHP officer was well within his rights and CHP policy, to use his firearm had he believed his life was in danger. Using good judgement the CHP Officer utilized his TASER on the man instead and the man went to jail. The age of the cane wielding man makes no difference as a solid strike on the head by him COULD have been deadly to the officer. While in jail the man gave a statement that we would expect from an arrestee about being abused, as of course he did nothing wrong, while his very own friend gave a statement that the man is known to be verbally abusive to people but would never be physical! Oh, of course not!! Wanna bet?
No, based on my LIMITED research I think the officer did what he needed to do to affect an arrest safely for ALL concerned.
