I have had no resolution to an issue that happened at the Subway in Bay Point on March 16 and wrote Subway that evening. I did not receive a copy of the exact email I wrote, but this is the one I wrote and then e-mailed to my sister for her critique. The only thing that changed was the ending, but I don't recall exactly what I changed it to:
"I have had an issue every single time that I have gone to this store, but today was the last straw. I had to take time to cool down as I was quite upset when I left there. First off, I had to repeat the request for the bread because the employees were too busy talking in Spanish with each other. Once she finally got the correct bread, she was too consumed with talking and watching the time as she then had someone take over for her so she could leave the sandwich making area. Someone else took over and I had to repeat everything again. They all continued talking as the first girl stood talking while getting her belongings together. She then came and set her belongings on top of the papers used to wrap the sandwiches. She went to grab a cup, but picked up two, placed her hand inside one of the cups to pull apart and then placed that same cup back on the stack, taking the one that her hand did NOT go into to get her drink. She continued talking with the other employees as she came around to the customer side of the bar. They passed back and forth a cell phone. When it came for my sandwich to be wrapped, I asked for the top sheet to be thrown away. When asked why I said I didn't think it should be used since she had put her things on top of it. She was standing behind me and I turned and said it was not very hygienic. When I turned back around, one of the girls in front of me smiled back at the one behind and then the one behind me said a whole string of Spanish starting with "Que Puta". As I stated, every single time that anyone in my family has gone to this Subway, there have been issues in our orders, but this time has gone over the line. They said they had no numbers for me to call to make any type of report. They could not help me any way. I am extremely beyond disappointed with this store and has tainted my desire to have any Subway. I can assure you that not a person in our family will go back to this restaurant again and I would hope that you would take some type of action with the people that are representing your business!"
So, no response! On April 1, I called the number on the email that I got as a confirmation that I had submitted something to them. I get hung up on before I can even say hello on the first call. So, I call right back and am put on hold. When I ask why I haven't heard back on this, she asks if I put down a phone number and maybe that was why. Sure did, gave her the number and she was able to pull up my letter.
"Why would there be no response to an issue where I as a customer was called a B**** in another language by an employee of your company?"
"Oh, we didn't get it until the 18th."
"Funny, I got a confirmation e-mail that you received it onthe 16th, and even if your department didn't get it until the 18th, today is the 1st and that has been 2 weeks without anything being done!"
"Well, let me forward it to that manager. Thank you for your call"
"Excuse me, that is all that you have to say?"
"It is up to the Manager to resolve this with you. It is a privately owned store."
"You don't have a problem with your company allowing practices of calling customers a B****?"
"The manager would be the one to take care of it."
Again, no response, so on April 22 I called again. Very brief call telling me that they would forward it to the Regional Office. Here we are on May 1 and I still haven't heard anything about it. I do not know the names of the employees working and when I asked for the managers name and any contact numbers for either their store or corporate, the said they didn't know. I have given ample time for even an apology to be made and not a single thing has been done, so I am publicly sharing my story. I hope that others will read and take a stand. I also want to state on the Spanish part, I personally speak little Spanish. I did take it from 7th-11th grade and then again in college. Unfortunately, it did not stick with me. I have a lot of family that speaks Spanish as my father was born in Argentina but it was not spoken in our house growing up. My issue is NOT with the fact that the employees were sitting there speaking another language, it is with the customer service provided as well as the hygienic environment.

Kinda hard to determine. Both in my opinion are nothing to be calling customers! Thank you for the correction. See, all those years of Spanish didn't stick!

You can make complaints too. Employee personal items are not supposed to be near prep areas.

I wasn't aware that I could view that kind of information, and that is very good to know. I need to make a complaint there too!

I returned because I enjoyed Subway sandwiches and hoped that there wouldn't be an issue. Honestly, this is the only Subway that I have had issues at. I have only lived in the area for about a year and a half. I have been to many different stores and like I said, I have not had an issue at other stores!

At least at Subway you can watch them make your sandwich and let that factor into whether you want to come back to that particular franchise. I've been to some that display very good food handling habits, and others that leave you wondering if you are really hungry enough to bite into that sandwich. That probably applies to all those Sandwich franchises, Subway, Quiznos, Togos, etc. I think it all points to whether there is a competant management presence on the premises. That's probably what really sets all these franchises apart. It sounds like this one might be suffering because it could be lacking in that department. The corporate office might look into it because of your complaint because it reflects negatively on all of them.
Don't let those plastic gloves fool you either. There's a proper way to use them, but in some respects they complicate the process because they are still supposed to properly wash their hands and dry them, especially between taking them off and on to use the cash register, take out the garbage, answer the phone, wipe their nose or whatever. I would just rather see them wash their hands. The Kinders I go to is great. After taking your order, the deli person says, "After I wash my hands, I'll get on making your sandwich right away." Yes, it's a little redundant if you go there a lot, but I always appreciated it, more so because it points to the management and gives you confidence that they care about their food handling procedures.

You might want to contact the Health Department. Find out who inspects this store and complain to them. They will get action on the sanitary part of it. It sounds to me that they are not afraid of the inspections. Hope it helps.
