Excellent home style cooking, not overpriced and excellent customer service...... Fresh baked turkey and roasts with all kinds of side dishes. Americana at its BEST. I toured the building while it was being set up, nice comfortable booths and elbow room...for families.
You pick up a tray and go thru the line and choose the food you want, and the servers will plate it for you. You then pay at the register and take your tray to a table. Once you have sat down, the employees will come by and refill drinks as necessary.
i went with two friends on Sunday evening, around 6 pm. I had not known it was a hof-brau type place until we went inside. The selection was extensive - in fact, a bit overwhelming. I had a hard time making a decision. I went with the tri-tip steak salad, which was pretty good. My friends had the lamb and the roasted turkey plates, and they were complimentary of their meals as well. My salad, with a soda and a roll, was about $12. The dining room was pleasant, although we did have some issues in getting refills on our drinks. We weren't sure if the staff got those for us, or if we had to go up and ask. After we got one refill, it was hard to get anyone's attention to get more. To be fair, the place was pretty crowded, as we knew any new restaurant in the Antioch/Brentwood area is when it first opens.
All in all, a pretty good dining experience. I will try it again.
we went after work yesterday. Foods not too bad. i've never been to that type of setup really. You get in line, get your food and then someone carries your trays for you to your table and unloads your trays. I just wasn't quite clear on whether we were suppose to tip or not. Issue was i dont really carry cash and had already paid at the counter. The reciept didnt have a place for tip either when we paid. But they had people walking around refilling, clearing your table, so i felt pretty bad. You leave a tip amkingston? Just thought id mention it in case someone goes there and doesnt bring any cash. overall it was a cheap, filling meal and it was under 40 bucks for 3 of us. Not bad.
They have a full bar as well. It actually wouldnt be a bad place to meet up for drinks and you can just walk over and grab some food whenever you get hungry.
You know, I didn't even think about it, considering that it was not at all like a "regular" restaurant. Neither did either of my friends. I guess it just didn't occur to us, which is not normal, because we do eat out as a group frequently and do leave nice tips if the service warrants it. If I had thought about it at the time, I probably would have left something, but not as much as I would have at a full-service restaurant. Hmmmm........what does everyone else think?
I always leave some sort of a tip at self serve places because someone has to bus the table and wash the dishes and utensiles. Most of these people are making minimum wage and I'm sure they appreciate a few extra bucks now and then. They divide it up usually, even with the cooks sometimes.
If it's owned by the Harry's Hofbrau people, they've been around for years. I used to go to the one in Palo Alto 30 years ago with my dad. Just took my son to the one in Foster City about 2 months ago. Always been really good food. Looking forward to check this one out.
