I just found out the the City of Pittsburg is going on anther Sister City junket in Septembe. This time to Mexico.

This time the trip is being paid for by the Pittsburg Power Company, which is owned by the taxpayers, and controlled by the City Council and the City Manager.

With todays economy and budget shorfalls, I would rather see the Pittsburg Power Company donate the money so that we can keep Buchanan Park and simming pool open for the kids of Pittsburg. Nancy Parent neds to cancel her trip using taxpayer dollars.

I was at the meeting when the Mayor informed the council the trip was being planned, I also remember her saying that those who were going would be paying for the trip out of thier on pockets, Which is it?

If the Power compnay pays it's still coming out of the Pittsburg Budget, because the return on investment from the Pittsburg Power Company, hopefully is going to our City's bank account.  Hey Danny, the Fact is the Mayor said she was paying for the trip out of her on pocket, if she or others want to go on a trip, the funds to support the trip should come out of thier pockets, or they don't go. Think of all the things we as citizens had to give up because of the hard times we are going through.

I agree. I did question this and this is the response I received from City Manager:

"Danny just so you are aware, no Power, City or RDA money is going to be used to go to our new Sister City in Mexico. All costs will be paid by the individuals going out of their own pocket. That has not changed!"

Danny,

I am glad that you questioned it.

I did ask again also and was told that there is to be a "grant" from the Power company to help defrey the costs. The group has been meeting and the trip is scheduled for September sometime after the Seafood Fesitva.

I have nothing against going to Mexico, but if the Power Company has grant money to share it should go towards keeping the Senior Center Open, or more to fund youth programs, the 144,000 and some change is a slap in the face to our youth. Again if the officals want to go on a trip they should pay thier on way

Are they trying to find major investors there to invest in Pittsburg?I doubt it;or are they promissing money we don't have for their city?.
