Trash collection

Hey everyone, on Monday the Pittsburg City Council is looking to amend the city's trash pickup service, basically providing cans for yard clippings, recycling, etc. The change would also increase rates: for example a 96-gallon bin would go from $25.75 to $37 each month. By comparison, Oakley pays $31.11, Antioch pays $36.50 and Brentwood pays $40.52 per month. Wondering where people stand on this...

I have a can for yard clippings and I do my on recycling, because it puts money(not much) back into my pocket. Yet I'm still being charged for recycling services I don't want.   When the city first implemented this the recycling program I was upset, because it was a sweetheart deal for Pittsburg Garbage Company. Sounds like another one in the makings. Take a look at the city streets I don't see anything that demands we have cans for clippings and a rate increase forced  on us.

It's stupid. We already have what we need and then to jump the price drastically and pretend that they are providing (free of charge) those extra containers is a joke.

I sure didn't vote for this and will not recycle, ever. I am not going to save stuff for them to re-sell for profit. None of this stuff goes in the landfill anyway, they separate it prior.

It appears to me, we don't have a choice in this matter.  In these terrible economic times, one would think they would hold off on this. Instead, we get hit again with higher rates.

It upsets me most that we have to have three cans.  Living in a homeowners association, we can't have even one can visable.  What am I going to do with three?

Call and complain and then tell them you don't need garbage collection and see what lame-brain excuse they give you..

Speak up before they vote. The people of Pittsburg really need to go the the City Council meeting and speak up, there is so much going on. RAISING RATE ON GARBAGE AND RECYLING, GIVE YOU THREE UGLY CANS THAT SOMEONE IN WOODLAND HILLS (AJ) THINK IS GREAT, POURING MONEY ON CAPTIAL PROJECTS AT THE PITTSBURG POWER PLANT THAT CAN WAIT, CITY MANAGERS ASSITANT TO GET A BIG RAISE, WHILE OTHER MIGHT HAVE TO RETIRE, FERRIS WHEEL GOES UP IN SMALL WORLD, WHILE THERE ARE CUTS PURPOSED FOR THE SENIOR CITIZEN AND YOUTH SERVICES, YET THE CAR SHOW GOES ON. If I was a betting man; I would bet the Sea Food Fesitval is sponserd by the garbage company, and that why you don't have a choice on your garbage and recyling service.  The Agena for the City Council meeting come out the Thursday before the next meeting which is held the 1st and 3rd Mondays.

Them old recycling bins they gave us years ago, I threw them in the trash too.

Pretty soon, they will find that people are cancelling their service and just taking what little trash they make to work with them. Or better, drop it-off at the offices of Pittsburg Disposal Sevice and see how they like being made to pick it up......

We the people have Power we are afraid to use.  The council know that.  Easy to write, harder when you have to try to keep your cool when speaking in front of these folks against decisions that hurt our community.  YES get involved, participate!  Lots of empty chairs there.

Getting Involved in Your Community

The U.S. government is a government of, by, and for the people. This means that people can shape the government and its policies. Each person has an important role to play in his or her local community.

somebody has to pay for the new fangled trucks to pick up the smelly garbage. Why not squeeze more blood out of the fine folks of Ptown.

The City of Pittsburg is continuing to put more and more good money toward bad projects. The Videro project lacks private collateralized investment and in my opinion, I feel the Domus project may have some of the same risks.

I'm amazed at how much money we keep pouring into only one area of the City. City Officials and City Staff need to remember that their are four corners of the City and not just one.  I also we should be concerned with where we are directing the limited funds that we have, and I think the money can be better spent in our youth and elder.

On 4/27/09, the city will hold a budget workshop in which the council will discuss possible cuts to programs which will have a major impact on youth services.  Some of the key items which are on the cutting block are:

·        A 100% cut in funding for the library.  The county currently funds 28 hours per week, and the city pays for another 28.  With the county also looking at cuts, it’s possible that they may reduce funding as well.  If they reduce library funding, and the city cuts all library funding, there will be very limited access to the library for students, for those who need the use of a computer and other services provided at the library.

·        A 100% cut in funding for youth services.  The current proposal is to have a private company or non-profit service take over the same programs that the city currently runs.  While this would also mean that the city staff who work in these areas would loose their job, potentially being hired by what ever group takes over the program.  It also means that the city would have no control over any youth programs, and would not have a say in any fee that may be charged.

I am very concerned that if all youth services are cut from the city budget, then the kids will find things to do on their own, which may not be the most productive activities or use of their time.  Add to that limited library services, and I believe it is a prescription for trouble.

Budget meeting is Monday, April 27th, at 3:00pm City Hall, 3rd floor

Are you getting ready to run for city council or something?

I don't completely agree with Danny but I think he should run for City Council.  Look at who we have in the council.  Mayor Nancy Parent is a retired lawyer. She's been in the council since the 80s.  I have no idea what she accomplished with her decades of service. She's had her time .  She should just enjoy her golden years and give some else the opportunity to serve.  Vice Mayor Sal Evola is a Seeno VP.  Does this guy really have Pittsburg's well-being as his primary goal?  We need a rabble rouser like Danny to stir things up!
