1) I don't like Judges writing laws. Having 4 judges overturn what millions of California voters passed a couple years ago is scary.
2) Marriage has been defined between a man and women for 5000 years…since the beginning of time. What is the compelling reason to change something that has been in place for so long now? Civil Unions have all the same legal rights as Marriage. Gay couples are afforded all of these rights today and will be in the future. This does not go away with the passing of the proposition.
Animals have rights…doesn’t mean that I should be able to marry my dog Shelby . Without a clear definition…you watch what will happen. Some scary cat lover will want to marry her cat. I was thinking about marrying the maple tree outside….its living and should have rights. I can’t cut it down with getting permission from the city. Ridiculous as it sounds…devaluing marriage and family is a bad thing.
3) Children have the best chance of becoming well rounded adults when they are raised by loving parents, in a loving family. Children already have a tough time in the world today. I’ve learned this more and more with a teenager in the house. Marriage and family are the cornerstone of society. When that institution breaks down…so does everything else. Look at inner city Detroit or the south side of Chicago for examples where children are being born and raised without parents that love them. Not model society should follow.
4) Thousands of children are adopted each year to families that cannot have children. They are placed in families by agencies like the Catholic Charities or the Mormon Church. This will go away for residents of California . Catholic Charities has already pulled out of Massachusetts . This is currently denying today thousands of couples the ability to use these agencies for adoption.
5) Anything that infringes on my religious rights gets my attention. Lawsuits will be waged against churches that refuse to perform gay marriage ceremonies? There are already cases in the courts. Churches will be forced to comply and marry gays.
6) Teaching children in school that gay marriage is equivalent to my marriage is a joke.
