(see poll http://forums.contracostatimes.com/poll/what-should-we-do-with-immigrati... ) I received the following email and want to pass it on as an example of why Sen.(orita) Boxer is so out of touch with America's middle class - The 2 subject bills, if enacted, will prove to be a complete disaster and America's middle class might as well just leave the country for one that acts on behalf of their citizens.   Here is a brief description from Rob Sanchez: <<<<< JOB DESTRUCTION NEWSLETTER No. 1876 -- 6/10/2008 >>>>> Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Judd Gregg (R-NH) introduced a bill to the Senate that is a companion bill to Zoe Lofgren's bill in the House. The bills will effectively staple green cards onto the diplomas of aliens with a master's or higher degree from a United States institution of higher education in the field of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). In order to qualify for the instant green card they must find a U.S. job in a field related to their degree. There will be no numerical limits to the number of STEM related green cards that can be issued. The two bills are described below: S. 3084 Sponsor: Sen. Barbara Boxer [D-CA] Cosponsor: 1 Introduced: Jun 5, 2008 H.R. 6039 Sponsor: Rep. Zoe Lofgren [D-CA] Cosponsors: 19 Introduced: May 13, 2008 I'm asking group members to contact congress and tell them you DO NOT want either bill enacted.  This is important guys.  For those interested in some text you can cut/paste and use, try this: H.R. 6039 (for house - S. 3084 in the Senate) if enacted would prove to be a disaster for American workers by providing an auto green card to every foreign national completing an education.  In a time when 600,000 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) students graduate from college - yet only 120,000 find jobs - there is a real problem with American finding jobs.  H.R. 6039 would pour fuel on the fire by flooding the market with far more college grads than needed, far more than there are jobs for them, circumventing the law of Supply and Demand, and driving down wages due to oversupply.  This would prove to be a complete disaster and more of the continuing assault on America's middle class. DO NOT SUPPORT H.R. 6039/S. 3084.

As the prior article pointed out, there are 120k jobs for 600k applicants in advanced IT applications. So what happens to those 480k people who don't get those jobs? http://www.newsday.com/news/local/crime/ny-livisa115722155jun11,0,398739... That's right. They end up working at gift card stores. And who do you think gets displaced from THOSE jobs? Apparently Sen.(oritas) Boxer and Lofgren just don't care!

Ok, am I being naive?  Why can't we adjust immigration each year for the unemployment rate?  If there are increasing unemployed Americans, then you decrease the immigrants (as well as the legal aliens with green cards) until unemployment decreases to an acceptable level.

Here's a report about oil futures in Mexico, where 40% of their taxes are generated. Production has declined by 15% over the past 4 years. No new wells developed by PeMex. Mexico expected to be net oil IMPORTER in 10 years. 10% of their population has already successfully invaded the U.S. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/ideas/bal-id.shell15jun15,0,152... How brain-dead do you have to be to figure out what's going to happen next? (Answer - brain-dead enough to be a politician, like Kennedy, Pelosi, Obama, McCain, Feinstein, Boxer, Torlakson, DeSaulnier. Get the picture?) How Long Do We Have?    About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:     "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government."     "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."     ">From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."     "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years"     "During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:     1. from bondage to spiritual faith;     2. from spiritual faith to great courage;     3. from courage to liberty;     4. from liberty to abundance;     5. from abundance to complacency;     6. from complacency to apathy;     7. from apathy to dependence;     8. from dependence back into bondage"         the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase , with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.     If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the  USA in fewer than five years.

Here's a heart touching story about a man who took a tour in our Armed Forces, was a solid citizen, then blew it all by aiding and abetting illegal alien invaders during his National Guard duty. Now if we could only nail the employers of those illegal alien invaders who caused this father to be separated from his children. http://www.star-telegram.com/804/story/700850.html Do we really need these outrageous 'immigration' / invasion levels? It's stories like this that irk the Hispanic Caucus and other pro-invasion racist groups to call for a boycott against Lou Dobbs. In this case, our own GAO found a 92% success rate of crossing the border illegally. (see poll http://forums.contracostatimes.com/poll/what-should-we-do-with-immigrati... ) Lou Dobbs Tonight -- CNN -- June 16 Dobbs: A new Congressional investigation tonight shows what we've been reporting on this broadcast literally for years. That our borders remain virtually wide open, that our border with Mexico is wide open, and as Casey Wian now reports, undercover investigators had a more than 90 percent, 90 percent success rate as they tried to enter this country illegally. Casey Wian: This is an undercover tester for the Government Accountability Office packing phony radioactive material and then smuggling it across unguarded sections of the U.S./ Mexico border. The same GAO study of border security over the past five years found that even at legal crossing points testers were able to use fake ID to enter illegally 93 percent of the time. GAO concluded that terrorists or other criminals could use counterfeit identification to pass freely through most of the tested ports of entry with little chance of being detected. The Customs and Border Protection Agency has spent tens of billions of dollars since 2001 adding thousands of agents and new technology, but officials say more resources are needed. ...Another study by the University of California at San Diego estimates the chance of an illegal border crosser being caught have doubled to nearly 50 percent since 2005. But because most try repeatedly, the ultimate success rate remains above 90 percent yet there's a shift in focus away from border security.

Here's some REAL interesting numbers about the H-1b program, especially if you are a recent American high school graduate and are thinking about science and engineering as a career ... My thanks to Bob Johnson for getting this transcript (06/09/08 show) off CNN's website and posting it for us.  I'm calling on all group members to send this transcript to congress with your comments.  Don't let them get away with "worker shortage"  myths.Up next, some in Congress want to make it even easier to hire cheap foreign workers instead of Americans. That's Bush administration regular policy, but we'll have a special report on what's going on now. We'll be right back. (COMMERCIAL BREAK) DOBBS: Well, business and political elites in this country repeatedly claim that the H1B foreign worker visa program must be expanded to meet the growing demand for more technology workers, but there's evidence tonight that the number of H1B visas issued by the government is outpacing by a considerable margin job growth. As Bill Tucker now reports, that means companies are cheap foreign labor because that foreign labor is cheaper than American. (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) BILL TUCKER, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): In the two years from 2003 to 2005, about 125,000 new computer jobs were created in this country. During that same job, more than 98,000 H1B visas were issued for computer workers. That was enough to fill 78 percent of the jobs created. Leaving only about 27,000 jobs for American workers. That's a conclusion by a report from the "Center of Immigration Studies" after an analysis of government data. The center which lobbies for tighter immigration policy concludes there's no relationship between the program and economic need. And it says the picture is worse for engineers. JOHN MIANO, CENTER FOR IMMIGRATION STUDIES: In 2005, the United States lost 3,200 engineering jobs. In the same year, we imported over 12,000 engineers H1B engineers. How do you argue with numbers like that? TUCKER: The high-tech industry continues to argue it's short skilled workers and that the program needs to be doubled add the very least from the official cap of 65,000 visas a year. ROBERT HOFFMAN, COMPETE AMERICA: These are job opening just within 5,000 companies in the U.S. economy. There 120,000 skilled job openings. It is not in any company's interest to leave jobs unfilled. TUCKER: According to the National Science Foundation, in 2005, we graduated 271,000 students with bachelors and masters degrees in science and engineering who were citizens or legal residents. (END VIDEOTAPE) TUCKER: And for the more than 18,000 foreign students who graduated from American universities, the Department of Homeland Security gave them a nice graduation present earlier this year. DHS doubled the length of time that foreign students can stay and work in the country after graduation to two and a half years. A lawsuit challenging that action is scheduled for preliminary hearing on July 7, Lou, so we'll see what happens with that. DOBBS: Yes, I still see Bill Gates standing before the committee chaired by Senator Ted Kennedy over a year ago. The only witness, the only member in the committee with Bill Gates saying, I need an infinite number of worker advisories, H1B visas. The absurdity and to watch the way Congress just sort of fawns over him and (INAUDIBLE) and says, it doesn't really matter what happens to the voters, to our constituents, to working men and women in this country, just so you satisfy the corporate and political elites in this country. Such balderdash. It's ridiculous. Thank you very much. Bill Tucker. Eight of the top 20 companies requesting H1B worker visas last year were based in India. Did I say that? Yes, I did. Those firms want to bring cheap labor from India to the United States so they can outsource middle class jobs to those workers here -- so they don't have to go to all that trouble of sending them all the way to India. The H1B visa program is one of 10 guest worker programs that this country already has in place. I know you're thinking, George W. Bush, the president of the United States, was saying, we need a guest worker program. But we actually have 10 of them already. Ten, Mr. President -- 10 of them, as we've been reminding you for the past year. Tonight's poll results -- 96 percent of you say you're outraged that the state of California would argue against verifying the legality of employees who would be doing work for the state of California. And now for the poll - (see poll http://forums.contracostatimes.com/poll/what-should-we-do-with-immigrati... )

I can already hear Sen.(orita) Feinstein's response after reading this - "... let them eat cake. Ha! Ha! Ha!" http://tinyurl.com/68f4te Printed from Many job aspirants give fake educational documents: Study14 Jun, 2008, 2023 hrs IST, IANS MUMBAI: In the first study of its kind in India, an employee background screening company has found that among the job aspirants who cheat, nearly 85 percent resort to giving fake educational documents. First Advantage specialises in background screening for 90,000 companies globally. It will make public its first 2008 quarterly report pertaining to the kind of "frauds candidates and employees perpetrate to acquire or retain a job". First Advantage managing director (West Asia) Ashish Dehade told media that the report "will be made public early next week". Declining to reveal the percentage of people who cheat, he said it was "very high". Talking about the sudden interest of corporates in seeking background screening of potential candidates, Dehade said that in recent times, "we are witnessing a massive discrepancy and a high growth of risks in candidate recruitment and contract staff or vendor hiring". "One of the reasons why many candidates manage to get away with spurious credentials and documents is because jobs are multi-located. In simple words, jobs are not confined to one region or state or country," he said. "Thus it becomes very easy for a person to get away with forged documents and fake claims." The findings of the 2007 study had come as a shock to firms and their human resource managers. "And in our 2008 first quarterly report, we have found that almost all industry sectors witnessed an increase in both employment and education related discrepancy as compared to the previous quarter." Dehade said the fraudulent practices are not confined to just one sector, "it permeates almost every arena, be it banking or health". The discrepancies were also found enveloping other facets of candidates. For example, it was found that 21 percent of the candidates had inflated their previous designations, 44 percent had given an incorrect tenure and 21 percent had provided false employment information like incorrect company name, employment status and reasons for leaving. __._,_.___ Jobs in America SHOULD GO to AMERICAN WORKERS ! ! ! !

We are waiting for more details, but a para-military group of invaders from Mexico invaded an AZ home on Monday for the express purpose of murdering the homeowner. The group was allegedly prepared to ambush responding police, but ran out of ammunition. http://www.kfyi.com/cc-common/mainheadlines3.html?feed=118695&article=38... Here's a report with a spin unseen before - the invaders are beginning to pack it in and hit the road! http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/070508... Did you note the lack of concern of their American-born kids being taken to a foreign country to finish their education? And the other interesting aspect is that immigration enforcement is being applied to persons leaving the U.S. who were here illegally! The following article appeared in our local paper regarding recent ICE raids in Hayward - http://www.contracostatimes.com/nationandworld/ci_9799197 Although the article is much more balanced than normal, it seems our local reporters still can't get past the editor with the proper phrase 'illegal alien', even when citing U.S. code (which, BTW, does not define 'illegal immigrant', whatever that is). One reason for "...ICE's haphazard enforcement record ..." is the fine work of Sen.(oritas) Feinstein and Boxer's support of Sen.(or) Kennedy's efforts to cripple the enforcement of immigration laws since 1987, when the first amnesty occurred. It wasn't until recently that ICE even had access to SSNs from the SSA unless a case had already been presented in court. And trotting out the worn-out argument that 'everybody else in the business does it' just won't fly anymore. I will concede that el Presidente Bush waited until his 8th year in office to begin to enforce immigration laws, and that presidents before him have done an abysmal job as well (again, due to the efforts of Kennedy et al.). Can you imagine the chilling effect of offering a reward to anyone who reports and testifies against their employers, especially if it was available to illegal aliens? Not only would you get to stay here awhile longer, you get transportation home and a 'severity package'. What a deal! Bombs away ....... The following article notes that Federal judges are letting illegal alien invaders go when charged with using a false SSN for employment. http://timesfreepress.com/news/2008/jul/08/chattanooga-use-false-ids-not... The rationale is that a SSN is not necessarily a form of identity. Huh! I wonder what the Federal judge uses to pay his income taxes. Maybe an audit is in order? Sorry, BOZO, but SSNs ARE used to identify financial accounts. DOH!! Maybe the Feds should just mark the judge's SSN as deceased, wipe out his SSA account, and good luck in collecting retirement benefits. Right before they appeal this bonehead decision. This is a curious event in Arizona. A Hispanic invasion supporter who is a public defender organized a protest where a pinata with the head of the sheriff was publicly beaten. http://www.fox11az.com/news/topstories/stories/KMSB_20080714_dc_jh_pinat... Now I hae see allusions of prosecution for terrorist acts when a noose is simply displayed, even without a picture of the target victim. So how does this reconquista get away with hanging and beating someone in effigy? Especially by an 'officer of the court'? We have both the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates pushing for 'comprehensive immigration reform', which is an euphemism for 'amnesty'. In the General News topic I posted an article about what real comprehensive reform should entail, at least from our end. In this article about the busiest Federal judge in America, this comment makes a compelling summary of why it is doomed to failure. Most of you have no idea what the immigration laws of our country actually are. You also live in a fantasy land where other countries are fair and not corrupt. Everyone says to "get in line" or "do what needs to be done to get papers". However, under our current system there is no line and there is nothing that many of the people who end up coming here can do to come here legally. The system in Mexico, for example, is so corrupt that if someone is denied a visa (for no apparent reason...usually because they cannot pay the mordida or bribe) they invalidate their passport. The person then has to re-apply and pay for a new passport before they can go be denied again. As Americans we take for granted that we fill our our visa forms in the airplane on the way to our destination country. As of right now the punishment for being in this country without documentation for 180 days or less is 3 years outside of the country. If you are here for more than 180 days you are banned for 10 YEARS. There is no statute of limitations. There is no get out of jail card. There is no marry a citizen and you can stay. There is no get a job that will sponsor you and you can stay. So, the option on the table for people who have established their lives here is to leave for 3-10 years and then go apply for a visa and most likely be repeatedly denied. Sounds tempting. So, all of us sons and daughters of immigrants (anyone who is full-blooded Native American can disregard) should educate ourselves before we lay claim to something that we have as a result of immigration. And before you talk about how our ancestors followed the law, maybe you should read about that too. Historically, the existing immigrant group in the US has been intolerant of the "newcomers". The Irish, the Polish, Chinese, and now the Hispanics. So much for history not repeating itself. You would think we might learn. http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/comments?type=story&id=5429227 (see poll http://forums.contracostatimes.com/poll/what-should-we-do-with-immigrati... ) Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi, McCain, Obama - Benedict Arnolds of the New Age of Aztlan RealAmerica

We may be an un-well nation, and the source of the illness strikes at our heart as a nation. This article does a good job of describing some of the symptoms, and after reading it it is no wonder that Congressional approval is in the single digits - http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_9989083 As a nation, we pride ourselves on our tolerance. But the symptoms above seem to indicate that we have been taken advantage of, and our resentment is rapidly turning to anger. So far the main stream media has kept the fighting among ourselves, but hopefully individuals will turn their irrationality on the real source, our representatives in government. But please beware! Our 'representatives' have prepared for an all-out attack, and el Presidente Bush is just itching to exercise martial law he recently acquired in the event of a 'national emergency'. Given the vagueness of the conditions the president can use to define 'emergency', even citizens marching on Washington, DC, with pitchforks could fit the description. So call them instead. Let them know when your neighbor abandons his home for lack of work and corporate greed. Ask them how the value of the dollar can increase when the Fed Reserve can print unlimited amounts of dollars. Ask them why they are borrowing money from China instead of providing manufacturing jobs. Ask them how they plan to pay the entitlements like the debt-ridden Social Security with dollars that are worth more than the dollars we put in. Ask them about the impact of adding 10% more to our population virtually overnight. Let them know you are angry, and smart enough to direct your anger at the source - the U.S. Congress, the best politicians money can buy. A Federal court is hearing a littering charge against a pro-invader who leaves plastic bottles of water in a wildlife refuge to aid and abet illegal aliens. The mitigating circumstances are that he removes trash at the time he is leaving out the bottles. http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/249979 What is weird is that this is a refuge, it's not like the water could be used for animals, or tourists, but only by trespassers and ... illegal alien invaders. So he he is, blatantly showing contempt for the laws of aiding and abetting, and his actions encourage even more illegal aliens to attempt the dangerous desert crossing. And as a consequence, causing even more deaths. I hope the court sees the irony in this, and charges and sentences him accordingly. The e-Verify system is working, and is working so well that the pro-invasion Democrats in charge have mounted a 2-prong attack against it. In the Senate, Bob Menendez (D-NJ (973) 645-3030) has placed a 'hold' on bringing the e-Verify reauthorization bill up for a vote. If not reauthorized it will expire in November. Senator Menendez has announced that he intends to hold reauthorization of E-Verify hostage until Congress submits to his demand to drastically increase the number of permanent, employment-based visas to be made available to US employers seeking to import foreign workers to permanently take American Jobs. He claims that he would do this by “recapturing unused” employment-based visas from as far back as 1991 and then add them to the current numerical cap of 140,000 employment-based visas that are available each year. The State Department estimates that the Menendez plan would add 550,000 additional employment-based visas, which would remain available until they are all used. Current law, however, clearly states that any employment-based visas not used in one year are allocated to the family-preference categories in the following year. That means that there are no “unused” visas from past years to “recapture.” Sen. Menendez ignores this provision of law, though it is safe to say he would not ignore the part of the law that says that any family-based visas not used in one year are allocated to the employment-based category for the following year. The fact is that current law ensures that all visas are used by transferring them between the two major categories of legal, permanent visas: family-based and employment-based. Senator Menendez needs to understand that the only way to "recapture" 550,000 "unused" employment-based visas is to "recapture" them from the family-based category to which they were reallocated. In the House, the traitorous Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and John Conyers (D-MI) are trying to curb the term of the program to 10 or even as little as 3 years with the thought of killing it altogether during the next presidential term. UPDATE - In the House, a compromise has been reached for extending the program for 5 years. Update! Lou Dobbs Spanks LULAC Over Illegal Alien Care - You will love this one if you are an American. I love the silence when Lou asks why the hospital and American taxpayers should pay, but LULAC shouldn't. ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvpAgWtxwoI This one should make you think. It's about a hospital, tired of receiving 10 cents on the dollar of Federal hospital reimbursements for illegal alien care, who shipped an alien, at their expense, back to his country of origin after saving his life. ref: Deleted by CCTimes censor (see poll http://forums.contracostatimes.com/poll/what-should-we-do-with-immigrati... ) McCain, Obama,Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi,  - Benedict Arnolds of the New Age of Aztlan RealAmerica

UPDATE - The illegal alien in the coma died, and now the family wants to sue the hospital for saving his life in the first place. And speaking of hospitals, a human resources person ran a routine background check on an applicant and reported to authorities that the SSN used belonged to a dead person. The 'story' (http://www.contracostatimes.com/news/ci_10236615) posted by CCTimes today could well have been written thus - POTTSVILLE, Pa.—Courthouse protests by caused a brief interruption in the preliminary hearing of three teenagers charged in the beating death of a Mexican illegal alien in a small Pennsylvania town. About 40 right-wing extremists and Marxists protesters outside the courthouse in Pottsville were told to keep quiet or they would be forced to move. The protesters are from workers and alien invaders' rights groups. A defense attorney complained about the distraction and the hearing was recessed for several minutes until the protesters quieted down. There have been no arrests. 25-yr old Luis Ramirez, an illegal alien from Mexico, was attacked July 12 when he crossed paths with a group of teens in the town of Shenandoah, about 80 miles northwest of Philadelphia. An under-aged girlfriend was in the company of Ramirez at the time. Ramirez is engaged to a 24-yr old American woman who has had 2 children by him. A judge is deciding if there is enough evidence against the three to send the case to trial. This is encouraging and disturbing at the same time. The good news is that so many police forces have taken up the offer to be trained by ICE that the federal funding has run out. The bad news is that the federal funding has run out. http://www.journalgazette.net/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080905/LOCAL/... So how is it we have money to throw at New Orleans (a natural disaster looking for a time to happen) for hurricane relief, but not to repel the invading illegal alien invaders? Didn't see anything about THAT in either campaign acceptance speech! Congress, in a desperate attempt to regain double-digit approval ratings, passed a bill to end the program that removes the limit of how far Mexican trucks can extend into the U.S. http://www.contracostatimes.com/politics/ci_10420859 (see poll http://forums.contracostatimes.com/poll/what-should-we-do-with-immigrati... ) McCain, Obama,Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi,  - Selling Out America at Bargain Basement Prices RealAmerica

Border Fence Funds $400M Short! That's right. Due to the delay and the present to Boeing of 10's of millions of dollars, the southern border fence is now behind and short of funds. http://idexer.com/2008/09/10/feds-need-extra-400-million-to-finish-borde... Floodgates Opened for Hondurans' Asylum - A recent decision by a Federal immigration judge opens up the floodgates for asylum to UNLIMITED numbers of aliens seeking asylum for sexual abuse. newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-liabus135841188sep13,0,7332093.story Newsday.com Judge grants asylum to 3 children on sex abuse claim BY DAVE MARCUS dave.marcus@newsday.com September 13, 2008 A federal immigration judge has granted asylum to three Brentwood children who said they had been abused in their home country of Honduras. The unusual decision, announced by the family Friday and immediately condemned by anti-immigration groups, could set a precedent for other immigrants who claim abuse, legal scholars said. "We are happier than words can express," said the children's father, Margarito Mejia, a contractor. "What a great country this is." [CORRECTION: The federal Department of Homeland Security has declared it will crack down on immigrants who enter the country illegally. The wrong federal agency was cited as taking that stance in a story yesterday about a federal immigration judge’s granting asylum to three Brentwood children who said they had been abused in their home country of Honduras. Pg. A27 NS; A23 C 9/14/08] Mejia's lawyer, David Sperling of Central Islip, said officials are showing a humanitarian attitude toward children who have suffered abroad even as the Justice Department has declared it will crack down on immigrants who enter the country illegally. The Department of Homeland Security, which opposed asylum, has 30 days to decide whether to appeal the ruling. Sperling called the judge's decision "bulletproof" and said he doesn't expect an appeal. Groups that call for tougher enforcement of immigration laws condemned the ruling. "It's unfortunately part of a trend where asylum is expanding to areas it was never meant for," said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington think tank. Legal experts said they know of no previous cases in which a federal judge granted asylum to those claiming sexual abuse. Professor Lauris Wren, director of Hofstra University's Political Asylum Clinic, called the Mejia decision "very significant," and added, "It's paving the way for future cases." Under immigration law, refugees are eligible for asylum if they've been persecuted because of race, religion, political opinion, national origin or membership in a particular social group. Judge Gabriel Videla interpreted the law in an unusual way, saying the children were members of "a particular social group abandoned by their parents." The children's mother left them after Hurricane Mitch flooded parts of Honduras and destroyed their home in 1998. Their father came to the United States legally, under a rule that granted Hondurans work permits after the hurricane. In 2005, immigration agents caught his son and two daughters sneaking into Texas from Mexico. The children were detained, then released to await a hearing. The girls said they had been sexually abused by a male cousin, and their brother said he had been beaten constantly. "The children's vulnerability was reason for their caretakers to exploit, abuse and persecute them," the judge wrote. "The children, from a very young age, have suffered astonishing hardship." With asylum, the children next year can become permanent residents, or green-card holders. They will be eligible for citizenship in five years. The children reacted with elation Friday. The oldest girl, who is 15, said she wants to be a doctor. Her 14-year-old sister said she wants to be a lawyer. And their 11-year-old brother said he wants to be a police officer. "They can go to college here, the doors are completely open," Sperling said. "It's the American dream for these kids." Copyright © 2008, Newsday Inc. Preview of Results of Congressional Action - T.Q. Houlton 202-225-7882 Tancredo Offers Advice to Rangel in Plain English Invites Rangel to co-sponsor legislation making English official language ( WASHINGTON, D.C. ) – U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) today sent the following letter to Charles Rangel, the Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means. Rangel has been under increasing scrutiny for failing to report $75,000 in earned income. Rangel has blamed his failure to report the income on his inability to comprehend Spanish.   # # # #   September 17, 2008   Dear Chairman Rangel,   Like many Americans, I have followed recent news coverage detailing your failure to report thousands of dollars in income derived from rental property.  In part, you attributed this to the fact that much of the communication relating to the house was conducted in Spanish, making it difficult for you to understand the potential tax ramifications of your investment.   I am sympathetic to your concerns, and would like to invite you to co-sponsor legislation I introduced (H.J.Res.19) which would make English the official language of the United States.   While passage of this bill will do little to reform our hopelessly complex tax code – or assist you in escaping your current ethical dilemma – its passage may help ensure that future generations of Americans less wealthy than yourself can live in a country where they can use an ATM, call a customer service department, or shop at their local grocery store without having to find a translator or “Press 1 for English” as they must often do in the America of today.   Please contact me if you would like more information about the resolution. Look For Hospital Closures Soon - The federal program (EMTALA) that created an emergency fund to pay for care at hospitals for illegal aliens is winding down in a couple of weeks. http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/2008/09/19/20080919biz-hospit... Here's the rules and basic outline of the program - http://www.warriorsfortruth.com/illegal-aliens-free-medical-care.html Estimated impact on California hospitals (3/28/08) - ref: http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3978 California Over 60 emergency rooms have closed and locally funded initiatives in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Riverside counties now pay for health insurance for illegal immigrants in those jurisdictions. One-third of the patients treated by the Los Angeles county health system each year are illegal aliens. Los Angeles, a magnet for legal and illegal immigration, is a prime example of immigration overwhelming a health system. Since the early 1990s, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LACHS) has been on the verge of collapse several times, saved only by bailouts from the federal government. LACHS bears the burden of providing treatment for two million people without health insurance and faces an anticipated $300 million deficit, accumulating to nearly $800 million over the next five years. 16 health clinics and two hospitals were forced to close their doors to everyone LACHS is sharply curtailing services at dozens of county clinics, hospitals, and emergency rooms, which serve primarily the working poor and indigent. If no additional state or federal funds are forthcoming, county health officials have proposed closing emergency, trauma, and in-patient services at three hospitals, along with two-thirds of the county health center clinics and 100 private outpatient clinics. "If these critical county trauma centers are closed, there is absolutely no doubt that injured people, both with and without medical insurance, will die unnecessarily because the other trauma centers are simply too far away," says Dr. Robert Hockberger, chair of Harbor-UCLA's Department of Emergency Medicine Scripps Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista estimates that about one quarter of patients who are uninsured and don't pay their bills are illegal aliens. The hospital loses $7 million to $10 million in uncompensated costs. In Santa Cruz hospitals are so crowded that they regularly close their doors to new emergency patients. When they're open, patients often have to wait up to ten hours. 30 to 40 percent of the Community Clinic of Orange County's patients in Santa Ana are illegal immigrants Regional Medical Center and Pioneers Memorial Hospital in El Centro, California loses over $1.5 million annually treating illegal immigrants.
