Hey, this is Paul Burgarino. I'm the new reporter for Pittsburg and Bay Point. Anyways, I'm looking forward to hearing what concerns people have in these two cities, story ideas, etc. Feel free to give me a holler.
Howdy Paul. What do you know about the Pittsburg annexation? I'm still trying to get more information on the up and downside. If we can get more police protection and better code enforcement in Bay Point, then I kind of like the idea. Pittsburg is a dynamic city, it has problems like all cities its size, but I have seen a lot of improvement over the years. I also think that Pittsburg and Bay Point together would have more political clout than is now the case.
Chewy, I think at this point, Pittsburg is along the same lines of thinking as you. There was a community meeting held last month, where Pittsburg City Manager Marc Grisham asked for a clear presentation from the county and Bay Point laying out the figures and why it would benefit Pittsburg. I'm not sure if they would have more political clout, per say, because I'm not sure how many residents here vote. There have also been internal questions about if a survey conducted amongst Bay Point residents represents the community as a whole, or if residents should vote on it. But, again I think the annexation issue hinges on if Pittsburg sees it as economically lucrative.
Hope that helped.
We have been trying to get Supervisor Glover to give us real numbers for over a year now and he continues to stall the process. A community the size of Bay Point, which is the largest unincorporated aread of CCC should have its own budget information available. The county continues to hide the facts and tell half truths, but hey its an election time and he wants back in that high paying job.
