Doesnt matter who CV has on the mound, unless they start playing defense and making the routine plays they will continue to struggle, you just cannot allow other teams to have 5 outs a inning and expect to WIN !!

I also heard CV has made changes to help the struggling defense which I guess we will see this week

looks like cv's new changes turned out for the better. wilhite threw pretty well too, for not pitching for a while. ump had a very tight strike zone

Whilhite pitched very well and will only get better !!

I wouldnt say the strikezone was super tight as I have seen some bad tight tight strikezones this year, ask DV coaches when they had bases loaded and there batter K'd looking on a pitch at his ankles if they thought the zone was tight !!

The biggest differance was CV only had ONE error I believe and made the routine plays which they havnt recently

clayton had a big win over the "eastbay all stars" aka de la salle

great game, a little sloppy, but great. timely hitting for both squads, very fun to watch

Your right on as it was a great game, yes a bit sloppy on both sides, both sides hit the ball hard and had the feeling the team that made the last mistake would lose

Clayton has fought thru injuries so far this year but get back two pitchers in next week or two which is going to make CV very strong heading into the home strech

Freedom beat De La Salle 1-0 and are now 13-5. Branden Petrangelo faced the minimum over 7 innings, throwing a no-walk one-hitter. Chad Combs hit a solo homer to provide all the offense they needed. Dustin Wold made a spectacular catch in centerfield.

Freedom's losses have only come to high-ranked teams (DLS, CV, Foothill, Newark, and Pinole). They have all-league candidates in Petrangelo, Combs, Wold, Billy Wardell, Justin D'amico, and Daniel Pereira. Richie Gollob and Javier Carvajal provide pitching depth, and their offense had been productive all year. If they continue to play well and win the rematch with Clayton Valley, they can win the BVAL.

The we'll talk about NCS again.

BIG Win for Freedom and sounded like a Great game !!!

The Rematch between Clayton & Freedom hopefully will be big if both teams dont have a slip before as it seems any team in BVAL is capable of beating another team this year

Its Amazing the Chronicle Top 20 lists DLS at #7 and Freedom & Clayton Valley as Honorable mention - Freedom has a better overall record & league record then DLS with a win over them and Clayton Valley is tied with them as has beat them ???

Is it just me or did the Times report that great game as a lucky win??

"A good hitter hit a mistake and that's the difference in the ball game." -

That Comment was made by DLS Coach Borba

The Game sounded like a Great High School game that the Better team on that day won

Clayton Valley Beat DLS last week and parents on DLS comments where wow we sure played a bad game instead of Congrats to Clayton Valley and on that day CV was the better team

Once again Congrats to Freedom

Great game between 2 good teams as Clayton Valley beats Freedom for 2nd time this year 2 to 0

Clayton got great pitching this week against Freedom & Heritage allowing only 1 run in 14 innings as there pitching staff is getting healthy with playoffs looming ahead

Freedom pitcher Wardell was very very good

Heritage beating DLS 8 to 1 yesterday now has Freedom 1 game lead over CV & DLS with 2 games left, should be exciting final week

It seems to me that Freedom, Clayton Valley, and De La Salle are all top ten teams. Every team in the BVAL is capable of winning some games, and these last three weeks should be good.

I think CV is the team to beat, they have the best lineup in the east bay, plus with Fuller back on the pitching staff they will be strong as ever. Look for them to run the table.

I agree that Clayton is playing well and getting Fuller back is a added bonus giving CV 3 pitchers for playoffs and yes the bats are hitting well !!

Dont count out Freedom as they have also been playing very well with strong pitching and timely hitting, Combs can flat out hit

AND lets not get ahead of are selves that CV will run the table as Livermore,Foothill,Monte Vista,Newark Memorial,Bishop O'Dowd,Alameda,Arroyo,De La Salle,Berkeley,Freedom,Pinole Valley,Irvington,College Park and Liberty might all have a say !!!!

I am a Clayton Valley Supporter by the way

Billy Wardell pitched another shutout today, and Freedom won the BVAL. Branden Petrangelo pitched a one-hit shutout Tuesday. Petrangelo faced only 21 in Freedom's 1-0 win over DLS, and Wardell one-hit Liberty, beating Drew Gagnon 1-0 last week. Does any other school have two starters like Freedom's?

Yes, CV does with Fuller/ Wilhite, fuller was 7-0 with an under 2 era as a junior, CV would have won AT LEAST 2-3 more games had he not been injured all year... plus wilhite is an animal with quality wins like DLS and freedom x2

Tuesday winners play Fri and Wednesday winners play Sat I am pretty sure

I know your a Freedom fan and I am a Clayton Fan, I am a bit disapointed with the seedings having the 2 teams play in round one, I know both games where good exciting games that they played each other , It would have been fun if both teams could go far in the playoffs and have a match up later in the playoffs !!!

Ditto on the disappointment. I think the same can be said for the other top seeded teams as well. I am looking forward to Wednesday, It surely will be exciting, now lets hope it isn't 104 degrees again! See ya there.

Whats your guys' predictions? Will there be any upsets?

Ballfan predicted that San Ramon Valley would slip into the NCS, but the Wolves were left out, leaving only 3 EBAL teams. They finished only 12-12-1, but beat Monte Vista twice, Foothill, College Park. Liberty was13-11, beating Bishop O’Dowd and Clayton Valley. College Park finished 14-10, but beat no teams that made the 3A playoffs. Castro Valley was 12-12 with the big win over Livermore. I guess the big difference is that SRV faltered after their 6-0 start, while Castro Valley finished strong with an 8 out of 10 run.

Predictions: Livermore, Alameda, Berkeley, DLS, Foothill, Monte Vista, Newark and Freedom.

With clayton valleys offense, and pitching, with Wilhite in game one and Fuller for game two, this team is unstoppable. Look for Clayton Valley to run the table

#15 CP deafeated #2 Foothill today by the score of 6-1.

Harmen Sidhu shut down foothill, giving up 3 or 4 hits off the top pf my head. When it was 3-1 Tommy Holcomb hit a 2 run shot to make it 5-1 and pretty much end the game. Big upset, but everyone knew it was possible behind Sidhu

Well you where right about Clayton Valley's offense as they put up 20 runs against 2 very good pitchers BUT CV pitching was shaky as Whilhite struggled thru out his 4-1/3 outing with Fuller provided 1-2/3 of relief !!

DLS and Foothill one and done !!!

So what we have now is: Irvington at Livermore Fri at 5pm College park at Monte Vista Fri 5pm Alameda at Arroyo Sat 1pm CV at Newark Memorial Sat at 5pm

Nice work by Sidhu yesterday. Does anyone know what the pitching matchups will be for this weekend's semifinal games? Were any aces saved for the 2nd round games? People said that Newark was overrated at the #3 seed. We'll see if CV can go there and bounce them from the competition. If they can hit anything close to what they did yesterday, they stand a good chance.

wouldn't be surprised that cv's pitching will fare better against Newark, look for the eagles to send newark packing tomorrow

CV is overrated. Freedom still better team IMO. cv always catches a break somehow. wind greatly affected outcome of that game. freedom was hitting line shots compared to cv's fly balls that carried. Give them credit i guess. Freedom out hit cv 19-14. If freedom plays better defense and cv bloopers didnt land in the perfect spot every time i believe this game would have ended differently. And to who ever said that CV has really strong pitching: CV pitchers are not that strong. wilhite crowd the plate and he will not be affective. Fuller is an iron mike pitching machine. CV can hit though. VS. newark they will probably be facing their #2 pitcher. look for another hit-a-thon.

how can CV be Overrated. they beat each pitcher from freedom once, and hit both of them very well on wednesday. it wasnt only balls dropping in, freedom missed a couple routine flyballs that prolonged innings. clayton didnt seem to have too big of a problem with the wind or sun. it was the same for both teams anyway. the wind affected both pitchers, and was very tough to throw to batters, it all came down to who adjusted to the wind while pitching, and it seemed clayton did very well. with exception to one inning, cv played very sound defense. - look for CV to run the table with everybody being healthy now.

College park beat Monte vista? the sleeper team?

I have to admit that my predictions were 4-4, equivalent to a blindfolded monkey throwing darts at a checkerboard. Both the EBAL and BVAL are down to one team.

I don't see College Park even on the original list, but they are now in the semifinals. They have taken out the 2nd & 3rd place EBAL teams. Monte Vista made a fuss about their seed, and then promptly lost a home game to a #15 seed CP. CP now awaits the winner of CV & Newark, while Livermore hosts the winner of the Alameda-Arroyo game.

Yes, it was for you. Omniscient means all-knowing. I saw you with the big flag at the NCS voleyball final and figured you might bring it to the ballfield as well. If they make it to the Coliseum next week, you will need to make sure it gets there to represent the purple & white.

Clayton over Newark 2-1, and Arroyo over Alameda 4-3, both on the road. Looks like 2 more great games. CV proved they can win the low scoring affairs as well. CV as the #11 seed now gets to host the semifinal on Weds vs. #15 seed CP in a matchup of former and future DVAL foes. #1 seed Livermore hosts #5 Arroyo. Tickets to the Coliseum punched for the winners.

foothill has a better hitting team then cv? and thats why they face the best pitcher from every team, and usually light them up? look for cv to run the table as the "underdogs" entering NCS. i wouldnt want to be college park comming to cv against wilhite...
