Is this another "partnership" between the City folks and Yahualica folks? Interesting we BROKE and now we have a KERMES. Nothing against it, just wondering who is paying for this? Tax payers?
Club Yahualica is throwing it in conjunction with the Sister City ceremony and their Pittsburg Cup soccer tourney. Pittsburg is NOT putting out any cash, though because there are some extra costs associates with police and public works, they are adjusting schedules for the next week to even out those costs.
What does that mean. I know for a fact that Police and Public Works are the bigest expense for these fiestas. The staff gets paid regardless, overtime, etc. What do you mean by "Adjusting Schedules"??? Who is paying for Police and Public Works?
It seems to me TAX PAyers will pay for this large expense?
Ok, as far as public works, there will be some supervisors from that department there, but their schedules have been changed to work that day. For example, if they work 4 hours on Sunday and work 4 hours less on a given work during the week.
It's similar to when I cover a weekend shift. I don't get paid for the extra day or overtime, but I take a day off during the week.
Club Yahualica is to have roughly 100 members responsible for clean-up.
As far as police, the extra cost for the day is $10,000. That cost is being split by Club Yahualica and Pittsburg, who is a co-sponsor. the City's portion ($5,000) is coming from the City Manager's contingency fund of $150,000. That fund was authorized by the City Council at Marc Grisham's discretion for events aimed at acheiving the city's Redevelopment goals. One of those is increasing Pittsburg's visibility.
Pittsburg's Visiblity?, what does that term refer to?. Pittsburg needs to stop spending money on useless events and start fixing our city. I'm more than tired of all the useless building and ridiculous street upgrades, since when does railroad avenue need to twist and curve?.
It's a huge mess and I don't see any new revenue generated in the near future from any of it. And please don't anyone mention the marina, that doesn't benefit anyone but boaters and folks that dock or launch from there a few times a year.
This mess has been going-on far too long, time to oust the city manager and the rest of the dead weight involved, and that includes Nancy Parent!.
Without call our city leaders names I agree the city must stop wasteful spending. The money spent on the 10th street mediums seems to be a waste. I suggested at a council meeting that the city could make money by chagring people to use the boating ramp, those funds could go to the youth programs or supporting our senior citizens. I'm sure change is coming to city council, Just hope it's someone who will work for all the people and the best for our hometown. One thing for sure we can't allow anyone more developers to come in and rip the city off for millions $$$.
That entrie 10th street project is an utter waste of funds, no matter if it's funding earmarked solely for projects such as those, our city needs to stop trying to be mini walnut creek.
The year is 2009, Time for a real recall is at hand. Time to clean house!.
My point will continue to be. If we loan 5k, we TAX PAYERS must get our money back.
So I guess the real question is how much money was made at the KERMES and where is this money going (to Mexico?).
Why don't we TAX PAYERS get our money back? Watch the sea food fest gets 70-80k from Tax Payers with no money returned. So where is that money going, and how is that money getting back to Pittsburg Tax Payers?
To add insult to injury CCCTimes wrote a PRESS RELEASE for the City of Pittsburg anouncing "Pittsburg nurtures link to Mexican city" how is this going to help us here in Pittsburg?
Raising U.S. money and sending it to Yahualica? I don't think this is going to help the City of Pittsburg residents get out of economic hardship here in U.S.
About the soccer teams. Paul, I was hopping you would bring light to my questions. in regard to Los Gallos soccer team playing with Liga La Amistad, now under Club Yahualica. Liga La Amistad and their teams where found using soccer fields througout East Contra Costa and where banned from playing in Contra Costa County. What do you know? Didn't someone made time in jail? How is it that these teams are now playing in contra costa county under the blessing of Pittsburg leadership?
