These dirt bags will continue to roll the dice until their luck runs out. That will be the day they attempt to carjack a vehicle driven by someone like myself or my wife and they receive a nasty “9mm SURPRISE”.

Sheesh...you'd think you'd be safe in, of all places Walnut Creek, at 2:30 in the afternoon. At least the woman was unharmed, but man - that must have been a looong ride for her. An 80-year old? These twentysomethings need to be taught a good, harsh lesson in respecting their elders. And hey, Contra Costa Times editors, when it comes to crimes, it's OK to actually describe what the perps LOOK like, even if you think it's not politically-correct to do so. Whether they're white, Hispanic, black, Asian or purple with green spots, you should let your readers know....

The woman`s race was not mentioned! because she is not a member of some diadvantaged or discriminated group. OK that means she is white, she is not a single mother[modern day sainthood] She probably raised her children well and her husband of many years passed away sometime ago. No gangsters in her children,so she doesn`t qualify for much sympathy.

What a bunch of little pansies. Taking advantage of an 80 year old. What was the motive, were the running? Was a crime committed in the time frame they had the car. Were they too lazy to take BART? Do they realize they could have given her a heart attack?

Of all the cowardly crap I have ever heard! I look forward to reading of the arrest and conviction of these kids. At least now our friends in the WCPD will have a bit of entertainment. Thank goodness the lady was not injured! I am thinking 72 hours to an arrest; any takers?

I'd like to be that optimistic, but I just don't think we'll be seeing a happy arrest on this one. Hopefully, they got the kids on camera and the lady has a decent description of them. But, we'll see. Let's go WCPD detectives.

I can't wait til these freakin pansies get caught and get sent straight to County where they all belong.  At least we all know that BAD karma will always follow them for as long as they live for doing some stupid [bleep] shiet like this. Unfreakin believable.

That is so absolutely disgusting!  I guess I am speechless, because as my Mother taught me, and I have taught my children, if you don't have anything nice to say...... These twenty somethings are a result of our current society, and sadly we are all in some way responsible for that...

Arming yourself legally and being trained to use a gun is the way to go.

You obviously must be joking.  Doing so "legally" is impossible in The Peoples Republik of California which doesnt recognize the 2ed Amendment.

I am. I wish CCW's were easier to obtain here in Commifornia. I'm sure it would make criminals think twice before jacking somebody.

wcdiva Seems to be alot of real crime lately in Walnut Creek......armed robbery at Trader Joes, suspect pulls knife on Nordstrom security guards, and now a carjacking of an elderly woman in the middle of a weekday afternoon!  In their haste to grab all of the tax dollars they can to support their expensive dream library, the City Council has oppened up the once peaceful and quiet city to all of the retail they can get which then attracts unsavory outsiders also looking for a quick money fix.  With no spare dollars in the budget to beef up the police force to meet the growing community's needs, we will be seeing even more of this type of behavior in the years to come. Glad to see that two of the sitting Councilmembers have not filed for re-election thus making the way for some new and hopefully more prudent people who will try to maintain the "hometown" image that Walnut Creekers know and love.

I hate to say it but I'm afraid that that "hometown" image of Walnut Creek that you're talking about disappeared around 1974.

Once again this online article doesn't even make the print paper. I'm thinking the TIMES editor's and the WC Downtown Business Association may be one in the same!

The "hometown" image really started to errode in the mid to late 80's when the likes of people like Mayor Regalia were elected to the council and thought they had a real mandate from the citizens to do whatever they wished with our tax dollars.  As long as they had sensible City Managers in place our fiscal health stayed very good until the library bug bit and the city managers became puppets of the strong women on the council wildly playing the pea under the shell game with reserves.  Now there is no money left for flood control, police, parks and open space but we WILL have the biggest and most oppulent library in the county. As to the paper not reporting the local news in print......they definitely are in the bag with the council and downtown business interests.  God forbid we citizens should really know what is going on in our own city!  Get busy and write letters to the editor to express your opinion and don't give up if you are rejected.
