Ours are: Windsor, Healdsburg, Angles Camp, our backyard (always wonder why we go anywhere else, except it always brings another project to-do list as we sit reading books in the gazebo...!). Seriously considering doing a B&B....

Just trying to stir something up here. Not much posting going on or new forums. C'mon, folks, get creative and start something new, controverial or just fun. The Black helicopter was fun whilst it lasted....

We have always liked Bodega Bay. Camping right on the beach. Any of the State Parks in that area. I enjoy a train ride to Old Sacramento for shopping and dining at the Crab Shack.

WOW, I've been looking forward to a train ride to Sacto, even for just a day trip! You've now reinforced that longing. Catch the train in Martinez?

Calistoga. We try to stay at the Calistoga Spa & Hot Springs. Has all the services (massage, mud baths, & mineral pools). You have the wineries, shops, restaurants, and Bothe State Park with walking trails close by. We even like to go up just for the day and have lunch on the patio at the Calistoga Inn (weather permitting).

Second place we like to go is Half Moon Bay. The State Park has a nice walking path that parallels the beach. Many times we went for the day to have lunch on the beach and ended getting a motel room for the night.

At either place we find we enjoy it more on the weekdays when its not quite as crowded.

ALWAYS weekdays where ever we go, too! Too many turistas, otherwise. Of course we don't fit that mold, do we?

Can I use that, I used to say that I was lost, but discovered that I can always find someone to tell me where to go.

My family and I like to go to Brannan Island during the summer when we only have the weekend. We try to plan to go when there is a full moon. It's awesome! We pitch tents. The kids make s'mores at night. We get up early and make breakfast, clean up and hit the water. Wether in the boat or at the beach. The kids have a great time and so do we. justamom1

Enjoyed doing that thirty years ago with our kids, pitched a tent and put on plenty of OFF, hot dogs over an open fire. Today, give me a roof and a spa nearby!

If so, I recommend the Marina Dunes Resort. We went there for our honeymoon. You drive up to the main lodge and park your vehicle. Then they issue you a golf cart to get to your room which is anywhere from a studio type apartment unit, to a private bungalow. Either way if you are on the bottom floor, chances are your sliding glass door opens up to the beautiful beach. They have an awesome restaurant called AJ Spurs. Kind of a classy but rustic steak house kind of place but verrrry good food and verrry good service. The hotel offers all kinds of packages too that include massages and stuff. If I could afford it. I would go back every year on my anniversary. LOVED IT!! justamom1

Pacific Grove next to Monterey. Lot's of funky little places to stay. Good restaurants in all price ranges. You can usually find a decent rate on a motel of B&B. Much quieter and slower paced than Monterey. Wife and I went for a getaway weekend week before last. $118 a night across the street from the lighthouse and the water including breakfast and an evening reception with wine, appetizers and BBQ burgers or hot dogs. Lighthouse Inn and Suites. First time I used my AARP rate.!!

Too cool! We usually stay in old Montery at Hotel Pacific, close to old downtown, Farmers' market, wharf, lots of fine dining. One of our favorites at least 2 times a year. HUGE rooms. Wifi. Found a new truck for one of our kids while on-line there last year and bought it on the way home. It was delivered to the Ranch in two days, knocked my kid's socks off! I forgot to mention that as our favorite place to stay to get away from the Ranch. But, y'know, we always come home and say "Why did we do that?" Brentwood is still our favorite place to go (stay).... We always love coming home.

If you have kids or an RV and would like a get-a-way camp trip that doesn't cost a fortune I'd suggest Casini Ranch In Russian River. It is about 40 minutes out of Santa Rosa and has a lot to do in the summer time to keep the kiddies and you busy! Guerneville isn't that far away for water fun on the river. A bit of shopping and eating around town. There's a mini amusement park with a waterslide [singular] and go-karts for an afternoon of fun. Korbel Champagne is right there too, for tasting and a tour.

The husband isn't happy if he cannot golf while camping. Northwood Golf Club is a 9 hole course and he says it is decent.

Taking a canoe down the river for the afternoon, packing a picnic, parking on an empty beach [even on the weekend you can usually find one] is my idea of a nice afternoon.

Jenner, Goat Rock Beach, Seal Beach, heck tons of ocean beaches are less than a half hour away on highway one. Bodega Bay is not that far either.
